"We're on the right way", said Colombian player James Rodriguez after the Cafetera team defeated Qatar 1-0 and guaranteed a place in the quarterfinals of the Copa America, in a match played at the Morumbà Stadium in São Paulo.
A close-up of the head from Duvan Zapata (85), after an assist from James Rodriguez, ended a game in which the South Americans dominated Qatar, who resisted until then based on defensive order, sacrifice and goalkeeper Saad Alsheeb, who responded with solvency on three occasions.
"It was a tough game. They were always behind us, but in the end something happened with Duvan's goal", the player who played for Bayern Munich for the last two seasons told DirectTV.
"We had a very good match. We had already talked before that they would be very well at the back and something nice happened. We're on the right track. When you have (Radamel) Falcao and Duvan you always have a goal", he added.
"It was difficult, but we had patience and we got the goal. The important thing was to win and we're going to be happy. We have the motivation to finish the group stage as well as possible", said striker Zapata.
The Atalanta player defended the possibility of playing with the 'Tigre': "They said we didn't understand each other with Falcao, but we showed that you can play with two strikers.
"There are situations that come worked and others (in the goal) in which it is necessary to improvise in the games. We were a compact team and this was a team triumph. We're going to try to finish as well as we can, with humility and game by game", he concluded.
