The captain of La Celeste expressed his sadness at the team's elimination against Peru.
Despite having a world-class forward, composed of lethal Luis Suarez and Edinson Cavani, Uruguay on Saturday failed to score and was eliminated by Peru in the quarterfinals of CONMEBOL Copa America Brazil 2019.
"We missed the goal. We looked for it, we tried it" said Diego Godin, captain of La Celeste, after the 5-4 penalty defeat against the Inca team.
"We have sadness and bitterness. We had a lot of enthusiasm and the desire to advance, but we couldn't", added Godín, the player with the most games in the history of the Uruguayan national team, with 131. "We had a great hope, but football is not about deserve".
Godín admitted that the Incas kicked better on penalties.
