It was not until the 1967 edition of the South American Football Championship that the fans could enjoy the participation of the Venezuelan National team. They were 51 long years that had to pass.
With Venezuela in 1967, all the South American countries participated in the South American. However, in this edition, Brazil and Peru were absent despite their phenomenal football status.
The debut of Venezuela was tough. Four defeats and one victory over Bolivia. 7 goals in favor and 16 against were the balance of the team led by the coach Rafael Franco who finished in fifth place in the championship.
After the mentioned participation, Venezuela did not stop attending the South American Tournament, but between the editions of 1975 until 2004, 'La Vinotinto' could not overcome the first phase.
It was until 2007 when Venezuela debuted as host of the tournament, which was played in 9 stadiums in which those fans who attended the matches enjoyed 86 goals.
The Venezuelan fans enjoyed again a victory for their team after 40 years. That triumph against Bolivia in 1967 was forgotten with a 2-0 victory over Peru in the second match of the championship. Already in the quarterfinals, the multiple champion Uruguay thrashed the team of Richard Páez by a 1-4. Finally, it was Brazil the champion beating the Argentina of debutant Lionel Messi.
For the CONMEBOL Copa América 2011, in Argentina, the Venezuelan National Team had an outstanding presentation. He finished second in Group B, after Brazil, qualifying to the quarterfinals.
The team defeated Chile 2-1 and in the semifinals he faced Paraguay. A 0-0 in the regulation time defined the classified one in penaltis. 5-3 won the Guaranies. In the fight for third place, this respectable Venezuelan team fell 4-1 against Peru.
A new elimination in the Groups phase in Chile 2015 and a quarterfinals in the CONMEBOL Copa America Centenario of the United States, is the record of Venezuela before the dispute of a new continental tournament in the CONMEBOL Copa América Brazil 2019, where it will debut by Group A against the Peruvian team on June 15 in Porto Alegre.
Animated after the March FIFA date
In this way, Venezuela arrives, with the illusion of playing a great role in the tournament in Brazil and looking for its first title of the continental tournament.
With nothing to lose and with everything to win in Brazil, the team led by the exgoalkeeper Rafael Dudamel is in a high state of mind after defeating Lionel Messi's last FIFA date in Argentina by 3-1 in Madrid (Spain). A good mood to face a difficult competition like the CONMEBOL Copa América Brazil 2019 where they hope to improve their past performances.
