The Opening Ceremony will begin at 9:10 p.m. on Friday the 14th. The doors of the Morumbi Stadium will be open to the public from 17:30 hours. Tickets for Brazil-Bolivia are sold out.
CONMEBOL and the Local Organizing Committee of CONMEBOL Copa América Brazil 2019 organized a Press Conference on Wednesday 12th, at the Morumbi Stadium, with the aim of approving the last details of the operation and the Opening Ceremony of the oldest national team tournament in the world, scheduled for Friday at 21:30 (Brasilia time), with the match between Brazil and Bolivia.
At this event, artistic director Edson Edermann presented the concept of the Opening Ceremony, with the presence of artists Léo Santana and Karol G, songwriters and singers of the official song "Vibra Continente".
Hugo Figueredo praised the efforts of the Local Organizing Committee so far and reinforced the expectations of the largest entity in South American football: "The match is ready, we have an impressive level in terms of stadiums and services. The ball is about to roll and we hope they live the best Copa America in history, thanks to a great technical and human deployment that will mark a before and after in the history of the competition.
Agberto Guimarães, Director of Operations of the Local Organizing Committee of CONMEBOL Copa América 2019, established the guideline of the operation that points to the beginning of the tournament. "We are ready for the start of the CONMEBOL Copa América. We ask fans to arrive early at Morumbi Stadium, quietly, to avoid queues and enjoy this celebration as much as possible. We'll open the doors at 5.30pm, so it's 4am from the start of the opening", he explained.
So far, more than 650,000 tickets have been sold to fans from 117 countries. Tickets for the first match between Brazil and Bolivia are sold out. "Sales don't stop and continue to increase as the tournament begins. We will have a beautiful celebration in the stands", Agberto Guimarães added.
Thiago Jannuzzi, General Director of Competition for the Local Organizing Committee, reinforced the expectations of everyone. "Football fans will experience a great celebration of the South American football, with comfort and security, modern stadiums and some of the world's top stars on the field.
Opening Ceremony
Under the concept of "Rocking The Continent", the Opening Ceremony will last 10 minutes, starting at 21:10 (Brasilia time) on Friday 14. There will be 400 people on stage, more than 100 musicians and technology with LED and virtual. The public will see an invitation from Brazil for a great celebration of the South American nations. Scenographic pieces of LEDs and virtual technology were some of the elements revealed on Wednesday.
"I can say it will be an energy that will blow up in the stadium. It will be incredible for those who will be watching from home and even more so for those who will be inside" explained Edson Edermann, artistic director of the Opening Ceremony.
A fan of Vitoria da Bahia, Léo Santana expects to sing the official song "Vibra Continente" at the Opening Ceremony with Colombian Karol G. "Hey, it's freezing in the belly. And what a pleasure. The day you no longer feel that coldness, that adrenaline, is because something is wrong. I was very happy when I received the invitation to this project. It was a great joy to have recorded (the official clip) in the most famous stadium in the world (Maracanã) and it will be unforgettable to bring this vibration of football to everyone" said the singer from Bahia.
"I'm also looking forward to it. I'm proud to represent my country. I'm very excited to be here in Brazil, besides living all this experience with Léo Santana, whom I've known for a long time, a great artist. But the most important thing is that everyone live this moment with passion and love and show it to the whole world", said Karol G.
About the Copa América
The Copa America is the oldest national team tournament in the world. It was played for the first time in Buenos Aires, Argentina, in June 1916. Some of the best and most recognized athletes in football are South American and will play in the 46th edition of the tournament, from June 14th to July 7th.
The main football tournament for men between South American teams will be held for the fifth time in Brazil and will be organized by the Local Organizing Committee - CONMEBOL Copa América Brazil 2019. By coincidence, the event returns in the year that completes the 100 years of the first edition on Brazilian ground - 1919. Brazil also hosted the event in 1922, 1949 and 1989.
In addition to the ten South American CONMEBOL member countries (Brazil, Argentina, Bolivia, Chile, Colombia, Ecuador, Paraguay, Peru, Uruguay and Venezuela), Japan and Qatar, members of the Asian Football Confederation (AFC), participate as guests. Nine FIFA World Cup titles are gathered on the field.
The 26 matches will be distributed in six stadiums in the host cities: Estadio Mineirão (Belo Horizonte), Arena do Grêmio (Porto Alegre), Estádio do Maracanã (Rio de Janeiro), Arena Fonte Nova (Salvador), Arena Corinthians and Estádio Morumbi (both in São Paulo).
