Ecuador´s coach, Colombian Hernán DarÃo Gómez acknowledged Uruguay's superiority in Sunday's 4-0 celeste triumph at the CONMEBOL Copa América Brasil 2019, but still believes there is room for improvement.
"We are not what we showed today, I do not think we are that," said 'Bolillo' Gómez at the post-match press conference held at the Mineirao stadium in Belo Horizonte.
"It was a game that they were better than us, especially in the first half when they beat us all over," said the tricolor strategist, recognizing the absolute supremacy of his rival at the start of Group C.
With clashes with Chile and Japan ahead, Gómez stressed that "now we must show what we are made of".
"Very bad first half for us, we faced a very strong Uruguayan team, very trained, much more than ours," he said.
At halftime, Gómez said that he told his team the following: "Let's leave that 3-0, we will not go through a humiliation"; asking them to go backwards so that "there were no more goals".
