The Council of the South American Football Confederation -CONMEBOL- approved on Monday, September 17, the proposal presented by the Local Organizing Committee -COL- of the Copa América Brazil 2019 with respect to the host cities and the stadiums selected to host the competition, which will be disputed between June 14 and July 7.
The Morumbi Stadium was chosen to receive the opening, and the grand final will be at the Maracana Stadium. The Arena do Gremio and the Mineirão Stadium are the premises of the semifinals. Arena Fonte Nova and Arena Palmeiras complete the list of stadiums in the competition. The next step for the confirmation of all stadiums is the signing of contracts with each manager.
In this way, the 46th edition of the oldest tournament in the world, which returns to Brazil after 30 years of absence, will be held in five host cities: Belo Horizonte, Porto Alegre, Rio de Janeiro, Salvador and São Paulo, in which will be 12 national teams that collect 9 FIFA World Cup titles and some of the biggest stars in world football.
In addition to the ten South American member countries of CONMEBOL (Brazil, Argentina, Bolivia, Chile, Colombia, Ecuador, Paraguay, Peru, Uruguay and Venezuela), Japan and Qatar will participate as guests.
"We are getting closer and closer to a new edition of the oldest tournament in the world. With the technical quality of South American national teams and the very high level of competition at CONMEBOL, the most competitive on the planet, the Copa América Brazil 2019 promises to be an exciting competition. And what better place than Brazil? Home of the only five-time world champion, Pelé and the jogo bonito, to offer the world and our guests the opportunity to experience the passion, magic and rich history of South American football" said Alejandro Dominguez, president of CONMEBOL.
"Our goal was to select modern stadiums, with a large public capacity and that have regular operation in football matches and international shows. We combine stadiums used in the 2014 FIFA World Cup with others that have not yet participated in major events in Brazil. In addition, we preserve the physical recovery of the athletes and the quality of the show with the premise that there are no trips of more than three hours between the venues" explained Rogério Caboclo, CEO of the Local Organizing Committee of the CONMEBOL Copa América Brazil 2019.
The following will be the stadiums in which the CONMEBOL Copa América 2019 will be played:
- Mineirão Stadium - Belo Horizonte
- Arena do Grêmio - Porto Alegre
- Estádio do Maracanã - Rio de Janeiro
- Morumbi Stadium - São Paulo
- Corinthians Arena - São Paulo
- Fonte Nova Arena - Salvador
