The choice of the Training Centers in the five host cities was based on the quality of the premises, study of logistics and definitions of official hotels.
The 12
CONMEBOL Copa América 2019 national teams already know the venues where they will be able to train during the tournament.
The Local Organizing Committee (COL) selected the
Official Training Camps (COTs) in the five host cities, after hotel definitions and logistics study. The premise of the election also took into consideration the quality of the turf and sports equipment offered in the stadiums, thus ensuring the structure and that all participating teams have a similar treatment.
Based on the competition schedule and the possibility of having four national teams hosted at the same time in a host city, the COL sought to guarantee a field for each team, designating up to 4 CTOs in each city, coordinated with the hotel officials of the delegations according to the proximity of each one.
"The pairings were established considering as main criteria the distance and the time of movement between the hotels and the official fields for greater comfort and convenience during the displacements of the national associations, as much in days of training, as of competition", explained
Thiago Jannuzzi, General Manager of Competition of the COL of the
CONMEBOL Copa América 2019.
In the COTs, the teams will have available infrastructure and standards that replicate the conditions offered in the Official Stadiums:
- Fields 105m long and 68m wide;
- Grass composed of grass type Bermuda and/or Azevém Perene, the "winter grass";
- Mowing height between 20mm and 25mm;
- Standardized sports equipment;
- Standardized sports equipment - fixed transoms, mobile transoms, training dolls, corner flags, etc.
- Painting of lines (12cm) and field area standardized according to the Laws of the Game.
Grass Preparation Seminar
With the commitment to always improve the quality of the grass offered to National Teams, the Local Organizing Committee contracted the specialist sports turf consultancy of a company with extensive experience in major events, who conduct periodic inspections in the five host cities and share technical reports with field owners and turf maintenance companies.
At the beginning of May, the Local Organizing Committee held the Grass Preparation Seminar, held in the five host cities, where the knowledge was shared with more than 100 professionals involved in the lawn operations of CONMEBOL Copa América Brazil 2019.
The seminar was divided into two sessions, a theoretical one, in which the best practices of grass maintenance and preparation were presented, and another practical one, in which the participants went to the field where they visualized equipments and machinery of maintenance of football fields in action. In addition to the transmission of knowledge, an important legacy of the event, guidelines were shared to prepare the pitches to standardize care in all the official stadiums and training fields of the competition.

Logistics of the National Teams
By regulation, national teams must arrive at the host cities, three days before the first game of the tournament, traveling to the next city the day after the game. The third ones placed in groups A and B that need to wait for the last round of group C to define their classification will follow the city of their last game until June 25.
Teams will be allowed to conduct their stadium reconnaissance training on the eve of each confrontation, at a predetermined time. In the meantime, should they decide to conduct their training the day before at a COT, the presence of the coach and player highlighted for the official press conference interview is mandatory. Although it is not a custom, teams may schedule a training at a COT on the day of the game.
