Daniel Garnero had a successful career as a footballer before taking his first step as a coach at Arsenal de Sarandí in 2008. At that time, he arrived to replace Gustavo Alfaro, the coach who in 2007 led the team from Viaducto to win the CONMEBOL Sudamericana, their first title in their history.

Garnero's first match as a coach was the Suruga Bank Cup, for which Arsenal had qualified due to winning the CONMEBOL Sudamericana a year earlier. It was a 1-0 victory for the Argentine team against Gamba Osaka from Japan and the first title as a coach for Dany.

With many years of experience, both Argentine coaches will compete in the CONMEBOL Copa América United States 2024™. They will face each other on July 2nd at Q2 Stadium in Austin, Texas, in the last group stage match.

Alfaro already knows what it's like to compete in the CONMEBOL Copa América™: he did so with Ecuador during the 2021 edition, reaching the quarterfinals of the tournament. He has been coaching Costa Rica since 2023, and in March 2024, he managed to qualify Los Ticos as the last participant for the tournament via the play-in tournament.

Meanwhile, for Garnero, it will be his debut in the oldest tournament in the world. He took over Paraguay in 2023 and coached them in four matches at the World Cup 2026 qualifiers.

With a shared past, Alfaro and Garnero face off in a clash of Argentine coaches in the group stage of the CONMEBOL Copa América™. Tickets are still available to watch this match.
