- The talented defender won the 2019 CONMEBOL Copa America™ with Brazil.
- Filipe Luís turned 38 on August 9th, 2023.
Filipe Luis forged an international career with the Brazilian National Team that extended over multiple years and significant tournaments. The wing-back has taken part in three editions of the CONMEBOL Copa América™ and clinched victory once, on home soil, in 2019.
He made his debut with the Brazilian team on October 14th, 2009, in a South American Qualifiers match against Venezuela. He stepped onto the field at the 76th minute to wear the yellow jersey officially for the first time. However, his presence in the national side was not consistent during his early years due to competition in his position and a few injuries.
His first major tournament with Brazil was the 2015 CONMEBOL Copa America™, where he featured in every game as a part of the starting lineup. He showcased outstanding performance, displaying his prowess both in defence and attack. Regrettably, the Brazilian team was ousted by Paraguay in the quarter-finals following a penalty shootout.
The following year, during the CONMEBOL Copa America Centenario™, Filipe Luís took part in all the Group Stage matches. However, Brazil suffered an unexpected elimination, finishing third in Group B with only one victory, 7-1 against Haiti, along with a goalless draw against Ecuador and a 1-0 loss to Peru.
During the South American Qualifiers for the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia, Filipe Luis received regular call-ups and contributed his experience and defensive skills to the team. At the World Cup, he played in Brazil's 2-0 victory over Serbia in the Group Stage and in the Round of 16 clash against Mexico, which ended with the same scoreline. However, he was absent from the field when the 'Canarinho' suffered defeat in the quarter-finals against Belgium.
Filipe Luís was called up for the 2019 CONMEBOL Copa America™, where he played a key role in Brazil's defence, contributing to their championship victory. He featured in all Group A matches, including the 3-0 win over Bolivia, the 5-0 triumph over Peru and the goalless draw against Venezuela. Additionally, he played in the first half of the quarter-finals, aiding Brazil's progression to the semis by beating Paraguay in a penalty shootout.
Despite not participating in the semifinals against Argentina and the final against Peru, in which Brazil secured their 9th CONMEBOL Copa America™ title, the standout defender played a crucial role in maintaining the team's defensive strength throughout the tournament.
Although Filipe Luís' international career with the Brazilian national team was not extensive in terms of games played, he left his mark as a talented defender and a valuable team member in the tournaments he took part in.
