- The South American clash will open Group B at Levi’s Stadium.
- They have played four matches throughout different editions of the CONMEBOL Copa América™.
On June 22, 2024, Group B of the CONMEBOL Copa América United States 2024™ will kick off: Ecuador and Venezuela will face each other at Levi’s Stadium (with a capacity of 68,500 people), located in Santa Clara, California.
They are the two CONMEBOL teams in a group that they share with Mexico and Jamaica, and they have a history of four encounters throughout the more than 100 years of the CONMEBOL Copa América™: two wins for El Tri, one for the Vinotinto, and one draw.
The first encounter took place in the edition held in Ecuador in 1993: they shared a group, and it was a great victory for the locals with a score of 6-1, with three goals from Ángel Fernández. El Tri finished that edition in fourth place, their best historical position.
Eight years later, in Colombia 2001, once again El Tri would prevail against the Vinotinto in the Group Stage, this time with a score of 4-0.
Ten years later, in the Group Stage of Argentina 2011, Venezuela would achieve their first victory in their history against Ecuador in the CONMEBOL Copa América™: 1-0. The Vinotinto closed that tournament in fourth place, achieving their highest position in the competition.
In the last edition, held in Brazil in 2021, Ecuador and Venezuela shared a group again and for the first time in their history ended up drawing in an exciting 2-2.
The opening of Group B, in a stadium that will also host the World Cup in 2026 and the Olympics in 2028, promises to be a great match. Tickets are still available to enjoy it.
