  • They will join Group D alongside Brazil, Paraguay, and Colombia.
  • It's the sixth time they will participate in the tournament.

Costa Rica became the last of the 16 teams to participate in the CONMEBOL Copa America United States 2024™ on Saturday, March 23. In addition to the 10 CONMEBOL teams, this edition will include the United States, Mexico, Panama, Jamaica, and Canada.

The match started better for Honduras, who quickly took the lead with a goal from Chirinos Cortes. However, the team led by Argentine coach Gustavo Alfaro reacted immediately with a goal from Orlando Galo. In the second half, a burst of good play put them ahead on the scoreboard by 3-1 with goals from Madrigal and Jefferson Brenes.

It will be the sixth time the Ticos play in the CONMEBOL Copa America™, following their participation in 1997, 2001, 2004, 2011, and 2016. On two occasions, 2001 and 2004, Costa Rica reached the quarterfinals of the tournament.

The debut will be against Brazil on June 24 at the SoFi Stadium in Inglewood. They will then face Colombia on June 28 at the State Farm Stadium in Glendale and close out the group stage against Paraguay on July 2 at the Q2 Stadium.
