In a ceremony in which he was the star representative of the CONMEBOL Copa America 2021, PIBE, the official mascot of the oldest national team tournament in the world, was immunized.
Pibe received the vaccine developed by the laboratory Sinovac Biotech Ltd, Official Healthcare Partner of CONMEBOL Copa America 2021, and is fully protected as well as all those who are part of the organization.
On April 28th 2021, an important date for the whole of the South American Football Family, 50,000 vaccines arrived donated by Sinovach Biotech Ltd, and distribution immediately began across the continent. Thousands of players, referees, caoches and collaborators were immunized helping to protect those involved in the tournament and their families.
The vaccines, donated by Chinese pharmaceutical company Sinovac Biotech Ltd. to CONMEBOL and transferred by CONMEBOL at no cost to Member Associations, constitute a further barrier to the spread of COVID-19. Additionally, the local health protocols applied since last year have proven to be very effective, with 99% of the tens of thousands of screening tests coming out negative.
CONMEBOL Copa América 2021
The 47th edition of the oldest national team tournament in the world features 10 participating teams. The 10 South American countries who are members of CONMEBOL (Argentina, Brazil, Bolivia, Chile, Colombia, Ecuador, Paraguay, Peru, Uruguay and Venezuela) are currently participating in the competition.
Some of the biggest stars in world football are battling it out to win the title in the tournament that began on June 13 and will end on July 10.
